Claudication
Claudication refers to leg pain brought on by exertion and relieved with rest. Claudication is also known as intermittent claudication, peripheral vascular disease, or "poor circulation." The primary cause of claudication is atherosclerosis, or narrowing of the arteries that feed the leg muscles. The predisposing risk factors that lead to atherosclerosis are diabetes, high cholesterol level, high blood pressure, and tobacco smoking. Of the four mentioned risk factors, tobacco smoking is the major factor leading to disease progression.
